Creating the shadow

I added a shadow to anchor my silhouette to my page (see p. 37). It’s easy to do. Here’s how!

1.) Add a new, blank layer and position it below your cropped photo layer.

2.) Ctrl+click (CMD+click on a Mac) the cropped photo’s icon in the layers palette to select it. With your new layer selected, fill the selection with black.

3.) From the Image menu, choose Transform then Distort.

4.) Drag a handle to distort the bounding box until it looks like a realistic shadow. Press Enter/Return when you’re satisfied.

5.) From the Filter menu, choose Blur then Gaussian Blur... Enter 12 pixels in the Radius box, then click OK.

6.) Last, reduce the opacity to 10% and you’re done!

How to use the photo-ready template page:

1 Open the file in your favorite image editing program. The pages are designed to be used with Photoshop Elements, but should open fine in your favorite image editing program. 2 Copy and paste your photos onto the page. Resize if necessary. 3 Add a title and journaling. 4 Print your page.

That's it!

The template and background page are 6"x6" mini-pages. The resolution for all of the files is 300ppi (pixels per inch).
